The Juicy Side of Encaustic Painting

I call this the "knuckle"

Here's a look at the juicy side of an encaustic painting. I tend to use a generous amount of wax when creating my artwork and the wax builds up these beautiful ridges and drips along the side. These are later scraped away during the final finishing stages but I just love how sumptuous they look. This image speaks to the richness of this medium. And the fragrance...wow...the bees wax smells so good...like molten honey and sunshine fresh linen. One of my students remarked during a workshop that "it smells like home." Love that!
