Creative Block

Everyone experiences creative block from time to time. ~

Just like at the gym...sometimes you have to warm up your creative muscles in order to kick your creativity into high gear.

I use this simple exercise to get my creative juices flowing when I’m feeling stuck: ~ Grab a scrap piece of paper or an old canvas... something that you don’t have any attachment to. Now find something to make a mark with. A pen, pencil , paintbrush or even a sharpie will do...and simply start making marks on the surface. The key here is to get your hand moving. ~ There’s no right or wrong way to do this exercise. You can create a series of different types of marks or you can simply cover the entire surface. Scribble, doodle, make broad strokes or tiny hatch marks. Draw shapes and then fill them in. ~ It’s important that you keep your hand moving the entire time. After a few minutes you will feel ready to jump to your next project. This really works so give it a try the next time you’re feeling stuck.
